BRIN and Fraunhofer IVV Strengthen Research Downstreaming to Support Circular Economy and Herbal Cosmetics

BRIN has reinforced its commitment to advancing Indonesia’s circular economy transition through a strategic collaboration with Germany’s Fraunhofer IVV. The meeting at the B.J. Habibie Science and Technology Park in Serpong focused on strengthening the insirkular program and initiating the establishment of a Circular Packaging Competence Center. In this partnership, BRIN concentrates on capacity building, training, and industry assistance, while Fraunhofer IVV contributes its applied technology expertise with a strong downstream orientation. This collaboration is expected to accelerate the adoption of circular technologies in the industrial sector and become part of the insirkular initiative led by Bappenas and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) to drive private sector transformation toward sustainable production practices.
In addition to strengthening the circular economy ecosystem, both parties also initiated cooperation in developing natural-based cosmetic products. BRIN’s Research Center for Pharmaceutical Raw Materials and Traditional Medicine (PRBBOOT) has developed various herbal cosmetic products, including anti-acne and anti-inflammatory formulations, with strong potential for international downstream collaboration. This partnership is expected not only to enhance technology transfer and industrial implementation but also to advance impactful research commercialization in Indonesia, supporting the national agenda toward an inclusive and sustainable circular economy.
