The Indonesia government, through the Ministry of Finance, is encouraging micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to adopt environmentally friendly business practices by offering a range of fiscal incentives. These include income tax (PPh) reductions for green technology investments, subsidies and grants for purchasing equipment such as solar panels or recycling machines, import duty exemptions for eco-friendly tools and raw materials, reduced or waived Value Added Tax (VAT) for environmentally friendly products, and tax credits for research and development (R&D) in green technologies. These incentives aim to lower the initial investment barrier and accelerate the adoption of clean technologies by MSMEs.
In addition to fiscal support, the government also highlights the non-fiscal benefits of green transformation. MSMEs that apply eco-friendly technologies have the potential to improve operational efficiency, product quality, and brand image in both domestic and international markets, which are increasingly sensitive to environmental issues. The shift to renewable energy is also expected to reduce carbon footprints, minimize waste, and create new jobs in the green sector. The government views this initiative as vital not only for short-term economic growth but also for ensuring long-term sustainable development.
