PT Semen Gresik, a subsidiary of PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk. (SIG), has developed green cement at its Rembang Plant with an emissions intensity up to 28% lower than conventional cement. During the Indonesia Green Building Festival (IGBF) 2026, held on September 29 in Surabaya, Semen Gresik President Director Gatot Mardiana emphasized that this innovation is part of the company’s transition toward low-carbon cement production without compromising product quality. The company also applies circular economy principles by utilizing alternative fuels, including refuse-derived fuel (RDF), industrial waste, and biomass, to reduce dependence on fossil fuels, improve resource efficiency, and lower emissions from manufacturing processes.

To promote the wider adoption of low-carbon construction, Semen Gresik collaborates with the Green Building Council Indonesia (GBCI) to encourage the use of environmentally friendly materials and the implementation of green building standards. With the retail segment accounting for nearly 70% of the company’s market, consumer education on green cement has become a key priority, while demand from construction projects continues to grow. Through IGBF 2026, government representatives, industry stakeholders, academics, and practitioners discussed strengthening policies and promoting sustainable construction materials. This collaboration is expected to accelerate the adoption of low-carbon cement, enhance the competitiveness of Indonesia’s construction industry, and support the country’s Net Zero Emissions target by 2060.
