The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) and PT Semen Indonesia (SIG) have established a formal partnership to develop environmentally friendly green concrete designed for coastal and marine infrastructure. Formalized through a cooperation agreement signed on April 30 in Jakarta, the initiative aims to produce concrete that is energy-efficient, low in carbon emissions, and maintains high structural integrity. The development will incorporate non-conventional materials and industrial waste (such as nickel slag) to support a circular economy and withstand harsh marine conditions. BRIN underscored the importance of aligning research with practical industrial needs, while SIG emphasized that this initiative aligns with its long-term strategy to drive innovation and remain competitive. SIG has already reduced its production emissions by 38%, from 800 kg to 500 kg of CO₂ per ton, and intends to continue this trend through green product innovation. Beyond product development, the collaboration is expected to produce joint intellectual property and contribute to Indonesia’s net-zero emissions target by advancing the use of sustainable construction technologies nationwide.
