The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) emphasized the importance of shifting from a transfer of technology model to co-development in the development of national energy research. During Energy Week 2025, BRIN stated that innovation in the energy sector must be built through close collaboration between researchers and industry in order to accelerate the downstreaming of research outcomes and address the challenges of climate change and net zero emission targets. BRIN also encouraged the concept of multi-level readiness, ensuring that innovations are technically and systematically ready for implementation. Energy Week serves as a crutial meeting point between the research community and actual industry needs, with the hope that research outcomes go beyond laboratories and have direct impact on society.

From the industry side, PLN and Pertamina reaffirmed their commitment as connectors between innovation and market needs. PLN is ready to act as a living laboratory for testing technologies within the national electricity system, while Pertamina highlighted the importance of impact-driven research in supporting energy security and decarbonization. These two major state-owned enterprises are opening up opportunities for collaboration with BRIN in the development of biofuels, sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), enhanced oil recovery technologies, and carbon capture. Such cross-sector collaboration is seen as a key to accelerating Indonesia’s energy transformation toward long-term sustainability.
