Danantara Partners with China Companies for Waste-to-Energy Projects in Four Cities

Danantara is targeting the construction of Waste-to-Energy (WtE) or Waste-to-Electricity (PSEL) projects in Bekasi, Denpasar, Yogyakarta, and Bogor, with groundbreaking scheduled no later than July 2026. In the initial phase, the WtE project operator in Bekasi was awarded to Wangneng Environment Co., Ltd., while the Denpasar project was won by Zhejiang Weiming Environment Protection Co., Ltd. Both companies were selected through a tender process and are listed on Chinese stock exchanges. Under the planned cooperation scheme, Danantara and the respective regional governments will jointly hold a 30% stake through a joint venture company, while the project operators will hold the remaining 70%.
Wangneng Environment operates in waste treatment and energy, with experience in converting solid waste into electricity through technologies such as incineration, gasification, and biotechnology. The company claims it can generate around 3.04 billion kWh of clean electricity annually. Meanwhile, Zhejiang Weiming Environment is a major player in China’s WtE technology sector, covering the design, investment, construction, and operation of waste incineration-based power plants. Both companies plan to build WtE facilities capable of processing approximately 1,500 tons of waste per day, with an estimated construction period of two years and an operational duration of up to 30 years, in collaboration with local partners in Indonesia.
