Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has positioned the clean energy transition as an integral part of the country’s strategic diplomacy. Head of the Foreign Policy Strategy Agency, Muhamad Takdir, emphasized the need for a stronger coordinating role to ensure that energy diplomacy aligns with industrial strategies and sustainable development goals. Through the report Tranformative Partnerships for Indonesia’s Clean Energy Transition, developed in collaboration with Synergy Policies, Indonesia highlighted that developing countries must navigate the global energy transition amid intensifying geopolitical competition over supply chains, critical minerals, and the dominance of green technologies.

The report also stresses that international cooperation should not focus solely on investment but must promote transformative partnerships through joint industrial development, applied research collaboration, co-production, and workforce capacity building. Stakeholders further emphasized the importance of a whole-of-nation approach that aligns foreign policy, industrial strategies, financial systems, and public participation. These efforts are expected to strengthen Indonesia’s economic sovereignty while accelerating the achievement of national clean energy transition targets.
