The Indonesian Ministry of Industry is developing a decarbonization roadmap for the automotive sector, scheduled for release in August 2025, as part of the nation’s push toward carbon neutrality. According to Apit Pria Nugraha, Head of the Ministry’s Green Industry Center, the roadmap will serve as a strategic guide for reducing emissions across the entire automotive technology ecosystem—not just electric vehicles.

Key strategies include:

  1. Implementation of Euro 5 and Euro 6 emission standards,

  2. Wider adoption of Hybrid and Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs),

  3. Long-term shift toward hydrogen fuel cells and green ammonia.

Designed as a living document, the roadmap emphasizes a gradual, adaptive transition that aligns with industry readiness, infrastructure capacity, and supply chain development. The initiative highlights the importance of collaboration between government and industry to ensure realistic, affordable, and sustainable low-carbon solutions.
