Industry Accelerates Green Energy Transition, Supply Chain and Technology Challenges Remain

Strengthening research downstreaming and the implementation of clean energy innovations were key themes during the Industrial Talk session at ICSEEA 2026 organized by OREM BRIN. Tripatra highlighted the development of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) based on palm waste and biomass using HEFA technology, which is considered commercially ready, although challenges remain in feedstock availability, processing efficiency, and waste traceability in line with global standards. In the electric vehicle sector, the Ministry of Industry reported significant growth in electric cars, motorcycles, and buses. However, building an integrated battery supply chain, including recycling technology, remains a major challenge. The government continues to encourage industry collaboration and joint venture schemes to enhance global competitiveness.
From a policy perspective, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) emphasized accelerating decarbonization through the adoption of electric vehicles, biofuels, hydrogen, and ammonia across land, sea, and air transport sectors, along with the development of charging infrastructure and battery manufacturing facilities. The nickel industry, including PT Vale, has strengthened its sustainability commitment by utilizing hydropower for smelter operations and adopting lower-emission technologies such as HPAL. Meanwhile, technological precision has become a key focus in the development of electric vehicle inverters to improve efficiency and system sustainability. Cross-sector collaboration is considered essential to ensure that Indonesia’s green energy transition progresses effectively and competitively.
