BRIN, together with the Banjarnegara Regency Government and the Banjarnegara Waste Bank (BSB), has developed a plastic waste processing technology to turn it into an alternative fuel called PETASOL through a fast pyrolysis (FASPOL) machine. According to Nugroho Adi Sasongko, Head of the Center for Sustainable Production Systems and Life Cycle Assessment (PR SPBPDH), this innovation provides an innovative solution to address the waste problem while aiming to provide environmentally friendly energy. PETASOL can be used for diesel engines and supports agricultural machinery operations in Banjarnegara. This technology has attractive economic potential as it not only reduces waste volume but also produces environmentally friendly fuel. Banajarnegara Regent Amalia Desiana expressed appreciation for this research collaboration and hopes it can be applied more widely as a waste management solution in other areas.

Additionally, BRIN and the Banjarnegara Regent are also encouraging the search for innovative solutions to address the water hyacinth problem in Telaga Merdada, Dieng. Until now, the handling of water hyacinth has been limited to cleaning, without innovation to reduce its growth and utilize its waste. Amalia hopes that BRIN can provide a more sustainable and innovative solution to this issue, alongside the efforts to manage plastic waste that have already been initiated.
