PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) has implemented the use of green energy in the form of B40 biodiesel across all its locomotives and generators as part of its support for the national energy transition. This step aligns with the policy of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) in promoting the use of renewable energy in the transportation sector. By using B40, railway operations produce lower emissions, while strengthening the role of trains as an efficient and environmentally friendly mode of transportation and logistics amid the limitations of fossil fuels.
Looking ahead, KAI is also preparing to adopt B50 fuel to further enhance operational efficiency and sustainability, while prioritizing safety through a series of technical trials before full implementation. The use of biofuels (BBN) is part of a broader strategy to achieve national energy independence and meet the net zero emission target by 2060. As public awareness of environmentally friendly transportation continues to grow, the number of train passengers is also increasing, highlighting KAI’s significant contribution to sustainable mobility and national logistics distribution.
