Pertamina Strengthens Commitment Towards Net Zero Emission 2060 with NRE Academy Program

Updated: Nov 2

PT Pertamina (Persero) is strengthening its commitment to achieving the Net Zero Emission (NZE) target by 2060 by preparing highly skilled human resources (HR) through the NRE (New and Renewable Energy) Academy program. This program is a result of collaboration with the Thunderbird School of Global Management, Arizona State University, known as a hub for the development of environmentally friendly energy projects.

Pertamina's HR Director, M. Erry Sugiharto, explained that through the NRE Academy, Pertamina empowers its employees—referred to as "Perwira"—to be competent in renewable energy projects in Indonesia. It is hoped that, with the NRE Academy, Pertamina's employees will be able to broaden their knowledge and find innovative solutions in addressing energy challenges in Indonesia.

Erry also added that the NRE Academy will enhance Pertamina employees' competencies in the new and renewable energy industry, including technology development and NRE business opportunities. In addition to theoretical knowledge, the employees also have the opportunity to discuss directly with renewable energy experts such as Gary Dirks, Senior Director at the Julie Ann Wrigley Global Futures Laboratory, and Nathan Johnson, Senior Global Futures Scientist at the Julie Ann Wrigley Global Futures Laboratory.

Vice President of Corporate Communication at Pertamina, Fadjar Djoko Santoso, explained that to optimize the employee development program, Pertamina has partnered with the Thunderbird School of Global Management, Arizona State University. Arizona has now developed into an environmentally friendly economic hub aligned with various NRE activities, such as hydro, wind, solar, nuclear, and hydrogen energy in the region.

As a leader in energy transition, Pertamina is committed to supporting the Net Zero Emission 2060 target through various programs that directly contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). All these initiatives are in line with the implementation of Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) principles across all Pertamina's business lines and operations.
