The Ministry of Environment announced that the carbon fee rate has been set at NT$300 per ton, with preferential rates of NT$50 and NT$100 per ton for specific industry. This new policy will take effect on January 1, 2025. According to the announcement, industries meeting greenhouse gas reduction targets specified in Schedule 1 of the regulations will qualify for the NT$50 per ton preferential rate (Rate A), while those meeting the technical benchmarks in Schedule 2 will qualify for the NT$100 per ton rate (Rate B).
The Ministry emphasized that the carbon fee aims to encourage emission reductions. Businesses that submite and achieve voluntary reduction plans can apply for preferential rates. To support the transition, the Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Economic Affairs will offer guidance and technical consultation to help industries develop their reduction plans and apply for the preferential rates. The carbon fee will be collecting starting May 2026, based on the total emissions from 2025.
