Taiwan High-Speed Rail (THSRC) is actively supporting Taiwan’s national carbon reduction goals by implementing a range of sustainable practices. In line with the “2050 Net-Zero Emissions” target, THSRC has introduced environmentally-friendly uniforms made from 100% recycled PET bottles, along with new plastic-reducing materials for seat headrests and hot drink cup lids on trains. In 2024, these initiatives have helped reduce waste by 17 metric tons, cutting carbon emissions by nearly 48 metric tons.
Additionally, THSRC has partnered with Raingo to offer an eco-friendly umbrella-sharing service across 12 stations starting in March. Passengers can also return or borrow umbrellas at over 500 stations in northern Taiwan. During a recent press conference, THSRC showcased various sustainable products created with local partners, including baseball caps, pens, folding umbrellas made from recycled bottles, and shopping bags crafted from microwaveable food containers, further emphasizing its commitment to sustainability and circular economy practices.
