Taiwan’s Resource Circulation Administration and Taoyuan International Airport Partner to Advance Plastic Resource Circulation

The Resource Circulation Administration (RECA) of Taiwan’s Ministry of Environment (MOENV) and Taoyuan International Airport Corporation (TIAC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to promote plastic resource circulation and accelerate the transition toward a resource-circulating society. The partnership focuses on integrating plastic reduction and recycling into airport operations through three strategic pillars: source reduction, enhanced recycling, and circular reuse. As Taiwan’s largest international gateway, serving 47.8 million passengers in 2025, Taoyuan International Airport will use the initiative to reduce single-use plastics, encourage reusable alternatives, and strengthen sustainable airport management while showcasing Taiwan’s commitment to environmental sustainability.
Under the agreement, TIAC will implement practical measures such as reducing disposable tableware, promoting reusable lunch containers, and improving waste sorting and plastic recycling systems. Early results show that recyclable plastic collection increased by 126% during the first two months of 2026 compared with the same period in the previous year. Meanwhile, RECA will provide technical guidance, establish standardized resource circulation practices, and connect the airport with downstream recycling and upcycling partners. Through close collaboration among government agencies, industry, academia, and airport stakeholders, the initiative aims to create a model green airport that advances the circular economy, reduces plastic waste, and strengthens Taiwan’s sustainable aviation development.
