“2024 Taiwan Circular Economy Week Officially Launched”: Five Ministries Collaborate for Dual-axis Transformation Towards a Resilient Green and Sustainable Taiwan

Updated: Oct 2

The "2024 Taiwan Circular Economy Week" marks its sixth anniversary, showcasing collaborative efforts between public and private sectors to promote circular economy initiatives and a commitment to zero waste and sustainable net-zero goals. This year, the event is organized by the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of the Interior, and the Public Construction Commission, Executive Yuan, featuring a series of activities focused on a dual-axis transformation strategy of "Digital and Green." By leveraging digital empowerment, the initiative aims to transform smart energy and green manufacturing into innovative drivers, making circular economy a key element in building a resilient Taiwan.

Taiwan’s state-owned enterprise under the Ministry of Economic Affairs, CPC Corporation, is utilizing LNG-cold seawater to cultivate red algae known as "Sacrcodia." They employ green extraction technology to derive active components from this algae, launching the "海牡丹" brand of skincare and cleansing products. The Ministry of Economic Affairs has also invited Ye Xiang Enterprise Co., LTD to showcase their Regenerative Chemical Filters, which use patented regeneration technology and subscription services to assist high-environmental-impact industries, such as semiconductors, in enhancing their green supply chains and achieving carbon reduction.

The Ministry of Environment has partnered with Chase Sustainable Technology to apply AIoT technologies for automated cross-regional cloud data integration. This initiative introduces zero carbon emissions and zero waste sustainable practices, helping companies identify key sustainability issues, manage risks, and assess ESG data, ultimately providing a "one-stop smart sustainability" solution.

Under the guidance of the Ministry of Agriculture, Mo Mo Sun International Co. LTD has developed "Non-plastic microparticle residual materials" using agricultural by-products and biodegradable resins, resulting in reusable products such as straws, utensils, and dental floss.

The Ministry of the Interior recommends King Ho Tai International Co., LTD as a highlight enterprise that regenerates asphalt concrete milling waste into a new material called "cold-mixed recycled concrete." This innovation reduces reliance on traditional asphalt and eliminates the need for thermal energy in the production process, thereby lowering carbon dioxide emissions during road construction and maintenance.

During a press conference, Vice Minister of Economic Affairs Ching-Chang Lien emphasized that dual-axis transformation is a crucial factor for the future competitiveness of enterprises. Combined with circular economy initiatives, it can achieve industrial resilience and sustainable development in Taiwan. The Taiwan Circular Economy Week demonstrates cross-ministerial and public-private collaboration, supporting circular economy policies that enable Taiwan’s industries to flourish and reach net-zero sustainability goals.

To lead industries toward circular sustainability and showcase innovative research and development in circular economy, the five ministries will hold a series of exhibitions, forums, summits, and technical presentations in Taipei and Kaohsiung.
