BRIN is encouraging international collaboration in the utilization of biomass waste to realize a circular and sustainable economy. Head of the Research Center for Sustainable Production Systems and Life Cycle Assessment (PRSPBPDH) at BRIN, Nugroho Adi Sasongko, stated that BRIN is open to impactful joint research, particularly in transforming oil palm waste such as fresh fruit bunches, fibers, and shells into energy and valuable resources. The hosted webinar also served as a platform for idea exchange between Indonesian and Korean researchers regarding sustainable biomass utilization strategies.
Meanwhile, Dudi Iskandar from BRIN highlighted the high volume of waste in Indonesia, especially food waste, construction and demolition waste, textiles, plastics, used batteries, and electronic waste. He emphasized the importance of a circular economy approach to maximize waste reduction and reuse. The government targets 100% waste management by 2029, and collaboration with international partners such as Korea is considered crucial for developing technologies and joint solutions to address national waste management challenges.
