The CSC Steel Co. has implemented its “Two Axes, Three Transformation” plan, focusing on carbon reduction, green energy, and resource recycling to achieve notable carbon reduction results. According to the European Union’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) trial, the default carbon emission value per ton of steel billet is 2.21 tons, while the CSC’s emission are only 1.86 tons, 15% lower than the default value, laying a foundation for the company’s goal of carbon neutrality by 2050.
The “Two Axes, Three Transformations” plan includes two main development strategies: “High-Value Steel Manufacturing” and “Green Energy Industry Development,” alongside three major transformation initiatives: “Low-Carbon Transition,” “Digital Transformation,” and “Supply Chain Transformation.” The company’s efforts in carbon reduction earned it the 21st Century Foundation’s “Net Zero Industry Competitiveness Award” for the steel sector.
Over the past decade, the CSC has developed a 5G (Green) strategy, which encompasses green manufacturing, producing green products, partnering with green alliances to promote a circular economy, expanding green businesses, and advocating for green living. From 2011 to 2020, the company completed 1,182 carbon reduction projects, reducing a total of 1.45 million tons of CO2, accounting for 6.5% of its annual carbon emissions.
Between 2021 and 2023, the CSC completed another 682 carbon reduction projects, including waste heat recovery, energy efficiency improvements, equipment upgrades, and the integration of AI technologies. These projects reduced annual carbon emissions by 1.27 million tons, a 1.93% reduction, nearly triple the previous average reduction rate.
