The Indonesia government has reaffirmed its commitment to addressing waste management issues nationwide by formulating a comprehensive strategy that encompasses public awareness, technology, and infrastructure. In a limited meeting led by President Prabowo Subianto, the Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), emphasized the importance of early education to raise awareness about waste management. The government will also strengthen infrastructure and implement technology to manage waste from upstream to downstream, including recycling methods and waste-to-energy conversion.
As a concrete step, President Prabowo has ordered the establishment of a national waste management acceleration task force, focusing on technology-based policies and synergy between central and regional governments. Additionally, the government will launch a national movement, “Indonesia Free from Waste,” to encourage public participation in sustainable waste management. AHY stressed that this initiative is not just about infrastructure and technology development but also about fostering collective awareness to ensure effective waste management across Indonesia.
