Decarbonization of TAPG: From Biogas Energy to Bio-Coke Innovation

PT Triputra Agro Persada (TAPG) is expanding its decarbonization efforts in Kalimantan through two major initiatives: the operation of a biogas power plant (PLTBg) using palm oil mill effluent (POME) by its subsidiary PT Sukses Karya Mandiri in Central Kalimantan, and the establishment of a bio-coke production facility in West Kalimantan by the joint venture PT ATP Bio Indonesia. The PLTBg generates 2 MW of electricity, fully replacing diesel consumption and contributing to the reduction of carbon emissions by up to 73,000 tons of CO2 equivalent per year. This energy supports the operation of the processing plant and employee housing.
Meanwhile, the bio-coke facility, inaugurated in partnership with Aisin Takaoka in West Kalimantan, produces an alternative fuel from palm shell waste to replace coking coal in the steel foundry industry. This innovation is considered the first of its kind globally and forms a key component of TAPG’s strategy to achieve carbon neutrality by 2036. In addition to its environmental performance, TAPG has also recorded significant business growth, with net profit rising by 65.67% year-on-year and crude palm oil (CPO) production increasing by 10% from January to September 2025.
