Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Anindya Novyan Bakrie, expressed Indonesia's ambition to become a reference in processing electric vehicle (EV) battery materials at the global level. He conveyed this while being a panelist in a discussion at the World Economic Forum with the theme " Getting EV Supply Chains Rights " which was broadcast online on Tuesday (21/1/2025).
Indonesian companies currently supply battery materials to various international markets, including China with its advanced technology, Europe through Eramet and Volkswagen, and the United States through Ford.
Anin explained that the country is trying to create a balance in partnership with Western countries, while maintaining strategic relations with China. One concrete step is the formation of the Indo-Pacific Net-Zero Battery-Materials Consortium (INBC) by PT VKTR Teknologi Mobilitas Tbk, which focuses on cooperation with Western countries.
He also sees US investment in the electric vehicle industry as a huge opportunity for Indonesia. According to him, Indonesia can be a hardware supplier for the EV industry there which requires a sustainable, resilient and efficient supply chain.
