Indonesia and the Netherlands continue to strengthen their strategic partnership in higher education and research through The Week of Indonesia–Netherlands Education and Research (WINNER) 2025, themed “Building a Sustainable Future through Education and Research.” The Head of BRIN, Laksana Tri Handoko, emphasized that collaboration in research and education serves as a vital foundation in addressing global challenges such as climate change, health crises, food and energy security. He highlighted that the partnership between the two nations holds both historical and strategic significance, as seen in the large number of Indonesian students studying in the Netherlands and Dutch researchers collaborating with BRIN. Dutch Minister of Education, Culture, and Science Gouke Moes also underscored that WINNER acts as an important platform to connect interdisciplinary researchers and foster innovative ideas, including joint research on colonial-era collections and the return of the Dubois Collection as a symbol of mutual respect and partnership.
Meanwhile, Indonesia’s Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Brian Yuliarto stressed that international collaboration is becoming increasingly crucial amid the transformation toward the University 4.0 era. To date, there are 159 active university-to-university (U2U) cooperation agreements between Indonesia and the Netherlands. He added that the WINNER 2025 theme aligns with the new “Diktisaintek Berdampak” policy, which positions higher education as a driver of economic growth and social transformation. BRIN remains committed to strengthening Indonesia’s research ecosystem and connecting it with the global scientific community, while research and innovation are expected to deliver tangible benefits to society and support the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This collaboration is envisioned to continue as a joint effort to build a sustainable future for both Indonesia and the Netherlands.
