MOENV in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Welfare, has launched a training program to promote sustainable practices in Taiwan’s medical care sector. Recognizing that hospitals and medical institutions consume large amounts of energy and resources, MOENV approved the Developing Green Healthcare Initiatives on May 16, 2025, outlining 7 strategies and 14 actions. These include waste reduction, water resource management, indoor air quality improvement, green chemistry, and carbon inventorying. The initiative aims to strengthen CO2 reduction, enhance resource circulation, and improve sustainable governance across the healthcare field. By aligning with global trends led by WHO and UNFCCC, Taiwan’s healthcare system will enhance resilience, reduce emissions, and improve its international competitiveness.

To ensure effective implementation, the National Environment Research Academy (NERA) will host four training sessions in 2025 for “green medical talent,” equipping frontline workers with professional skills in environmental sustainability. The program also includes, demonstration sites, joint visits, and professional counseling to accelerate the adoption of green practices in medical institutions. The MOENV and Ministry of Health and Welfare emphasized that environmental sustainability in healthcare is becoming a global necessity, and this program embodies the policy vision of “Healthy Taiwan, Green Healthcare.”
