MOENV and TSMC Partner to Drive Carbon Capture and Achieve Net-Zero Emissions

The Ministry of Environment (MOENV) and TSMC have signed an MOU to advance carbon capture technology, marking a significant step toward achieving Taiwan’s net-zero emissions goal by 2050. The partnership will introduce carbon capture technology at government-operated incinerations plants, allowing CO2 to be sequestered in liquid form for industrial use or storage, thereby supporting carbon neutrality. The MOENV is also funding equipment upgrades and energy-saving initiatives at these incinerators, promoting efficient operations and heat recovery for power generation to reduce fossil fuel reliance. TSMC’s Senior Vice President Lora Ho emphasized the importance of this collaboration in combining technological innovation with policy promotion to combat climate change.

This initiative is part of the broader effort at the Taichung Center for Zero-Waste Manufacturing, a facility jointly developed by the Central Taiwan Science Park Bureau and firms like TSMC. This center focuses on resource circulation and waste reduction, including plans to recycle 86,000 metric tons of organic solvents annually into high-value chemicals. Environment Minister Peng highlighted the MOENV’s role in promoting sustainable development, while TSMC reaffirmed its commitment to environmental protection and supporting national carbon reduction policies. The partnership aims to inspire other companies to join in building a robust ecosystem for resource circulation and carbon neutrality.
