National Formosa University Implements Smart Circular System to Advance Sustainability and Green Campus Initiatives

National Formosa University (NFU) recently launched a trial operation of the ECOCO Smart Circular Economy System, successfully collecting 1,000 PET bottles in just two weeks. This initiative demonstrates tangible results in promoting resource recycling within the campus. During the “Sustainable Action University Expo” hosted by the Yunlin County Government at NFU, various low-carbon and sustainability initiatives were showcased, including carbon inventory training, battery recycling stations, and cross-sector collaboration projects. These efforts reflect a joint commitment between the university, local government, and industry to build a sustainable and green future. The system is expected to be expanded to other campuses and include additional recyclable items to further strengthen sustainable campus governance.
Furthermore, NFU’s Office of Sustainable Development and Social Responsibility has actively involved students in hands-on sustainability training. So far, 59 students have completed professional carbon inventory training, with 22 obtaining the ISO 14064-1 international greenhouse gas inventory certification. The event also featured displays of everlasting flowers made from natural materials and sustainable fashion garments created using recycled PET bottles and oyster shells. This reflects the integration of eco-consciousness and fashion. Additionally, Yunlin County Government’s collaboration with Shih Chien University in Taipei is promoting the use of agricultural and fishery by-products in innovative clothing design, supporting both circular economy and local revitalization.
