The North Maluku provincial government has partnered with the startup Containder to manage plastic waste, from collection to export. Governor Sherly Tjoanda announced the program's launch in Ternate City, with total plastic waste collection reaching up to 13 tons per month from all over North Maluku. The collected waste will be exported and turned into income for local communities.
Sherly emphasized that waste, what was once seen as a problem, can now become a new economic opportunity, encouraging ongoing innovation and collaboration to realize a clean and prosperous North Maluku.
Containder’s Field Manager, Chicko Mole, stated that the success of the program depends on the active participation of the public, as their involvement reflects shared responsibility for environmental care. The circular economy approach will provide both environmental and economic benefits.
Containder’s Founder and CEO, Billy Mambrasar, mentioned plans to boost waste processing capacity, including using artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance sorting and processing efficiency. Founded in 2022, Containder utilizes a digital app to collect waste and aims to reduce plastic waste and CO2 emissions.
