The Padang City Government is handling 3,327 tons of post-flood waste over a nine-day period, including backlog waste, debris from affected residential areas, and large logs washed down from upstream rivers. Most of the wood does not need to be transported to the Final Disposal Site (TPA) as it is being utilized by local residents and small businesses as fuel. The Environmental Office (DLH) is also collaborating with PT Semen Padang to use the wood as an alternative industrial fuel, thereby reducing the burden on landfills and accelerating the normalization process.
The reduce, reuse, recycle (3R) approach has been implemented since the first day of recovery, through on-site material sorting by waste banks and waste management personnel. This strategy not only streamlines waste transport logistics but also strengthens sustainability principles in post-disaster waste handling. DLH believes that with zoning strategies and optimal resource utilization, the post-disaster waste cleanup can be completed on time and in an environmentally friendly manner.
