Class IIB Singkawang Prison has partnered with PLN Indonesia Power UBP Singkawang to empower inmates through training in brick production using coal combustion waste, specifically Fly Ash and Bottom Ash (FABA). This collaboration marks a concrete step toward fostering rehabilitation based on self-reliance and social reintegration. The brick-making process—mixing, molding, and drying—is carried out directly by inmates under the supervision of prison staff and PLN tehnical teams. The activity not only provides technical skills but also build self-confidence and a sense of responsibility among the inmates.
PLN emphasized that utilizing FABA aligns with the principles of a circular economy and community empowerment. Waste-derived products such as bricks, paving blocks, and fertilizers hold economic value and can be used for local development. Through this strategic partnership, Singkawang Prison hopes to equip inmates with practical skills that will benefit them after release while also opening opportunities for small-scale industries based on waste utilization. This program serves as a tangible implementation of the Coorperation Agreement between the Directorate General of Corrections and PT PLN (Persero) to support environmentally friendly waste management and sustainable inmate rehabilitation.
