The Indonesian government, through the 2025-2034 Electricity Supply Business Plan (RUPTL), targets the creation of more than 1.7 million jobs in the national electricity sector. A total of 836,696 workers will be needed in the power generation sector, while 881,132 will be required in transmission, substantions, and distribution. Notably, 91% of the jobs in the power generation sector fall into the category of green jobs, which are seen as a key driver of Indonesia’s competitiveness in the transition to clean energy. The types of power plants that will absorb the most labor include solar (PLTS) with 348,000 workers, hydro (PLTA) with 129,000, and geothermal (PLTP) with 42,000—all of which demand new technical skills.
In addition, RUPTL sets an ambitious target for the share of renewable energy in the national energy mix, aiming for 34.3% by 2034. PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo stated that this target exceeds initial expectations. According to him, by 2030 the renewable energy mix is projected to exceed 21%, a significant increase compared to the 12% achieved in 2024. The reflects Indonesia’s strong commitment to decarbonizing its energy sector and building a solid foundation for sustainable green investment.
