To alleviate carbon reduction pressures on supply chains and export manufacturers, Taipower will sell its first batch of RE30 low-carbon electricity in 2025. This new product, containing 30% renewable energy, will be priced at NT4.82 per kWh, with a maximum purchase limit of 100 million kWh per enterprise account. A total of 1.66 billion kWh will be available this year, helping companies lower carbon fee expenses and meet international client requirements for green energy certificates. Taipower plans to gradually increase RE30 electricity sales, targeting 10 billion kWh annually by 2027 to support supply chains in achieving their 2030 renewable energy goals.
RE30 is priced higher than the industrial average electricity rate of NT4.27 per kWh but offers significant benefits, including a 30% reduction in carbon emissions coefficients and a 70% cut in carbon fees. This makes it advantageous for companies facing the EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) or other international green requirements. Despite concerns that reduced carbon emissions might lower environmental tax revenues, the Ministry of Economic Affairs noted that the initiative encourages companies to adopt renewable energy, boosting the green electricity market and facilitating overall carbon reduction. Furthermore, Taipower will prioritize supplying existing green electricity markets before allocating RE30, ensuring minimal disruption to current green energy users.
