The Ministry of Environment (MOENV) hosted the “Net-Zero and Sustainable Green Living” meeting on April 16 to foster public engagement and discuss Taiwan’s flagship carbon reduction projects. Co-hosted with the Office of Energy and Carbon Reduction under the Executive Yuan, the event brought together officials from six ministries, along with industry, academia, and civil society representatives. The meeting highlighted Taiwan’s updated 2035 carbon reduction goal of the 38±2% and emphasized that achieving net-zero emissions requires not only government and industry action but also active public participation. Discussions focused on building consensus for low-carbon living through incentives, education, and cross-sector collaboration.
Key components of the MOENV’s draft flagship carbon reduction action plan include five strategic areas: subsidies for insulation in existing buildings, support for low-carbon transitions in the restaurant industry, promotion of green lifestyles through tools like carbon accounts, expansion of Green Mark and green procurement policies, and low-carbon community certification. Case presentations from academia and the private sector demonstrated successful grassroots and corporate approaches to net-zero living. With over 350 participants and a live broadcast, the meeting reflected strong public interest and served as a platform to collect feedback for refining future climate policies.
