Taoyuan International Airport has been actively implementing sustainable initiatives and expects to reduce carbon emissions by 17,200 tons annually, equivalent to the carbon absorption of 4.5 Daan Forest Parks. Key strategies include electrifying airside ground vehicles, introducing electric buses for terminal shuttles, and implementing bridge air and power systems to cut fuel consumption and reduce noise and air pollution. After obtaining Level 3 (Optimisation) certification from the Airports Council International (ACI) in 2019, the airport is now aiming for Level 4 (Transformation) certification in 2024.
To further support decarbonization, the airport has installed 43 charging stations with 86 charging guns for ground service providers, offering free charging from 2019 to 2023. Plans include expanding to 70 charging stations by 2027 and upgrading existing slow chargers to fast chargers. Additionally, Taoyuan Airport is setting restrictions on fuel-powered vehicles and prioritizing the adoption of electric ground support vehicles, such as tow tractors, baggage carts, and shuttle buses. In line with Taiwan’s 2050 net-zero goal and the Ministry of Transportation’s 2030 electric public transport initiative, sustainability criteria will also be integrated into the procurement of new airport shuttle buses.
