On July 16, 2024, the Ministry of Environment’s Resource Circulation Administration established the “Textile Circulation Alliance” to promote sustainable practices in Taiwan’s textile industry. Comprising 66 members from various sectors, the alliance focuses on green design, circular procurement, sustainable consumption, and innovative textile recycling technologies.

Deputy Minister of Environment Dr. Chih-Hsiu Shen emphasized the global impact of the textile industry, responsible for 4% of GHG emissions, and highlighted efforts to address waste generated by fast fashion. The alliance aims to increase Taiwan’s textile circulation rate to 80% by 2050 and align with international regulations, such as the EU’s “2030 Strategy for Sustainable and Circular Textiles.”

The alliance’s six key goals include promoting eco-friendly designs, circular textile procurement, innovation, and smart sorting facilities. Regular meetings and workshops will foster collaboration between industry, government, academia, and research to enhance Taiwan’s competitiveness and advance textile circulation for a sustainable future.
