The Battery Recycling Research Team of Gadjah Mada University (UGM) and National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) met with the Chairperson of BRIN, Laksana Tri Handoko to discuss the development of battery recycling technology in Indonesia towards the industrial-scale implementation (Jan 9). UGM Battery Recycling Research Coordinator, Indra Perdana stated that research since 2015 has resulted in technology capable of processing various types of lithium batteries. He expressed hope that this technology could be scaled up to the industrial level to address battery waste challenges arising from increased vehicle electrification.
Director of UGM’s Engineering Research and Innovation Center, Prof. Tumiran, emphasized the importance of collaboration in supporting the national economy. In response, Handoko highlighted the need for commercialization strategies, cost efficiency, knowledge transfer, and partnerships with technology producers.
This meeting is expected to mark the beginning of synergy between BRIN, UGM, and industry stakeholders to create efficient, environmentally friendly battery recycling technology while fostering technological independence and national industrial competitiveness.
