Coca-Cola Foundation Indonesia, together with BenihBaik.com, has launched a maggot-based organic waste management program in Tremas Village, Pacitan (one of the villages in East Java Province). The program transforms household waste into animal feed and organic fertilizer, creating a sustainable system that reduces waste buildup while providing new economic value for residents. Chairman of Coca-Cola Foundation Indonesia, Triyono Prijosoesilo, emphasized that this initiative is a concrete example of turning challenges into opportunities. Pondok Tremas Islamic Boarding School, with more than 6,000 students, is now free from waste accumulation issues, while the surrounding community enjoys a cleaner environment.
This collaborative model has also been widely recognized as a social innovation. Andy F. Noya, Founder of BenihBaik.com, described the program as a tangible example of social innovation that can be replicated in other regions, as it delivers both environmental and economic benefits. The Tremas maggot initiative complements the previously inaugurated Tremas Reservoir, built by the Coca-Cola Foundation as a solution for food security and water management, further strengthening its tangible contribution to sustainability and community well-being.
