Indonesia’s proportion of electricity from renewables is below the global average of 30%, at only 20% in 2022. The global share of renewables in electricity generation rose to 30% in 2023, driven by solar and wind power growth.

Indonesia consistently missed renewable energy investment targets, attracting only $1.48 billion in 2022, falling short of the $1.8 billion target. Investment in renewables between 2017 and 2023 ranged between $1.1 billion and $1.6 billion annually.

Wind and solar power contributed 13.4% of the world’s electricity in 2023. Indonesia’s solar and wind power generation was only 0.2% in 2022, compared to Vietnam’s 13%.
