Kezia Fellicia Kurniawan, an 11th-grade student at Jakarta Intercultural School, is making notable contributions to environmental sustainability in Indonesia through her research on biogasoline. Accepted into a research program by the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), she worked under Robert Ronal Widjaya to study the conversion of ethanol into gasoline using aluminum-pillared bentonite (Al-PILC) as a catalyst. Her research significantly improved gasoline selectivity, from 0.91% with unmodified bentonite to 51.70% with Al-PILC.
Beyond the lab, Kezia launched BioFueline, a public campaign and survey aimed at raising awareness about biogasoline and its benefits. Her survey of 200 people found that 67% were willing to switch to cleaner fuels, despite low initial awareness. Her work not only advances renewable energy research but also contributes to waste management and supports Indonesia’s climate goals. Kezia's journey has inspired her to continue pursuing impactful environmental research and advocacy.
