Prabowo Pushes for Village- and Sub-district-Level Waste Processing to Begin This Year

President Prabowo Subianto has instructed the acceleration of micro-scale waste processing facilities at the village and sub-district levels, targeting implementation to begin this year. These facilities are designed to process approximately 10 tons of waste per day and convert it into sand or dust that can be used as a mixture material for sidewalks, cement, and other construction needs. Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Brian Yuliarto stated that processing capacity will be adjusted to the waste volume in each area and is expected to be piloted in several villages and sub-districts in the near future to reduce the local waste management burden.
The government has prepared several technological options for the project, including gasification, plasma-assisted, and cold plasma technologies, which will undergo further assessment to ensure their effectiveness and safety before wider implementation. The program is projected to serve as a short-term solution to accelerate regional waste management while awaiting the full operation of the Waste-to-Energy (PLTSa) projects currently under development. Through this approach, waste is expected to be managed directly at the village and sub-district levels without relying on long-distance disposal.
