The Indonesian government has established the Green Industry Standard (SIH) as the primary reference for companies to carry out efficient and environmentally friendly production, in accordance with Law No. 3 of 2014 and Minister of Industry Regulation No. 14 of 2020. SIH consists of two types of requirements: technical and managerial. The managerial requirements cover company policies, strategic planning, monitoring, internal audits, corporate social responsibility (CSR), and labor aspects. The audit and certification of SIH are conducted by BBSPJIKB, appointed as the Green Industry Certification Body (LSIH016). As of October 2025, 72 SIH numbers and 159 certificates have been issued, with several other standards awaiting approval from the Ministry of Industry and the Ministry of Law and Human Rights.
The technical requirements of SIH focus on resource efficiency and emission reduction across six key areas: efficient use of renewable raw materials and leftover materials (close-loop principle), energy efficiency and transition to new and renewable energy sources, water conservation using the 3R principles (reduce, reuse, recycle), optimization of production processes, product and packaging design that meets quality standards and is reusable, recyclable, or biodegradable, and waste management that complies with environmental standards. SIH also emphasizes the principles of a circular economy, evolving from 3R to 10R, as a concrete effort to support the industrial sector’s decrbonization process.
